FIRMWARE UPDATING ISSUES WITH macOS 13

Orba 2 is currently having issues with firmware updating on macOS 13 computers. In macOS 13 Apple changed the way virtual volumes are accessed. This is the way Orba 2 and many other products perform firmware updates. We are looking for workarounds in the meantime.  Please open a support ticket if you need help.

After several exchanges with you, I still have the same problem. Impossible to save songs and share... Impossible to update the firmware when I click with the maj button. I tried everything, you will be able to see it when you access to the exchanges. I sent screen shots. Thanks for your help.

No problems now on my 2017 Intel iMac running Ventura 13.4.1.

Artiphon Support Team,

Has this issue been fixed for MacOS users?  It is also my understanding that this issue, or something very similar, has plagued Intel powered Mac computer users.  Has that issue also been fixed?

I ask these two questions because I’m interested in the Orba 2 but want to ensure that known open issues are resolved possibly before proceeding down the acquisition pathway.

Thank you.

Good news, I was able to restart and update my frozen Orba 2 by doing the firmware update on a Windows machine.

Same issue here. Orba 2 powers up with fixed alternating blue and white LEDs, and immediately throws an error code in the app (MacOS 13.0.1). The error code restarts the Orba 2, but it returns to the same state and immediately gives the error code again. App version is 1.0.183.

Same thing here. No connection possible via USB with MAC.

Thanks for letting us know about this Mike.  We got your email and responded today.  Reply through email and we'll go from there to get your sorted out.

I am in the same spot - my daughter's new Orba 2 seems bricked thanks to this bug.  I am using the latest App version (1.0.183) and should probably have looked before taking the recommended step of updating firmware.  It isn't hard to provide a little more guidance here or stop the application from pushing users to brick their device with a broken firmware push. And a 2-day turnaround on a ticket for something like this seems a little ridiculous - please offer a solution?

As stated above, re-connecting to the App does not fix this. Rather, there is a loop of the device re-starting, not connecting, turning off, re-starting, etc. The device is not reachable via Bluetooth or USB. I have opened a ticket and am waiting for a response.

I'm having similar issues. ORBA 2 worked fine out of the box, The app said to update the firmware, so I attempted to do just that. ORBA 2 is stuck in some kind of unsuccessful update loop. I have reconnected it to the app several times, reinstalled the app, and restarted the computer just to be sure. No luck. Do I need to return this, or is there a fix?

Usually connecting to the app again will fix issues like that. If the issue persists, please send an email to support@artiphon.com and they will get you back up and running.

This issue is occurring with the new App. I received an Orba 2 today. It worked out of the box, but the App said to update the firmware. I downloaded App v.1.0.183 from the site, plugged in to the Orba 2, and started the FW update. Here is the log:

The device will now only light the LEDs. It is unresponsive to touch, to the USB, and to Bluetooth.

Are there any ways to fix this, or should I return the device?

Hello all.  App version 1.0.183 has been released and it contains the firmware update fix for MacOS Ventura!

Purchased an Orba 2 yesterday and attempted to update the Firmware with my Mac.  Same issue...it is completely locked, all lights are on, and the Orba 2 is completely non responsive. Unless I hear from support today, I'm going to return it to Guitar Center for a refund and ask the manager to warn customers not to purchase if they have a Mac.  Truly disappointing start to using this product.

I’m just saying your statement makes it sound like you discovered the issue after Ventura shipped to customers, rather than when it shipped to developers several months in advance. If you don’t already test with Apple’s pre-release versions it’s important to start doing so. (I’ve been a Mac developer for a few decades, just trying to provide some advice to a relatively new company…)
