On an Orba (1) - is the headphone output wired as mono (tip/sleeve) or stereo (tip/ring/sleeve)? Would the headphone output be damaged by plugging it into a mono input (i.e shorting ring/sleeve)?

It's a stereo headphone output. I've used a mono adaptor several times to run Orba through a guitar amp and it works great!
