I had a hard time, but I recovered safely.

It didn't work when the batteries were completely zero.

The operation while charging did not go well. Let's fully charge it before executing.

However, since the LED does not light up, You cannot confirm whether it is charged or not.

I think you should charge it for about 3 hours.

Hello, could someone please tell how I go about updating my Orba without having to buy a new computer? I use an iPad and iPhones to make my music, but none will talk to the Orba without a firmware update requiring a laptop or desktop machine. This seems to be somewhat of an oversight in my humble opinion. This gadget seemed such a good idea…

My Orba bricked up too.
Plugged it into the PC (Windows 10), switched it on, it was recognized by the PC (and was automatically used a speaker ??). Tried to update the the firmware via the app..then the lights went off and it doesnt react anymore. The PC doesnt recognized it anymore either, thats probably the reason why none of the methods described above are working.

In all honesty I gave up with mine. Unless you can get another PC you're stuck unfortunately
I don't know how the Orba charging manager works, but there seems to be a threshold of power draw below which it won't charge at all. USB adapters (e.g. to charge it off a Thunderbolt port), different third-party cables, or simply the power output from your host device can all be a factor. The only way to be sure a discharged Orba (where it's got to the point where it won't turn on and so you can't use the green lights to check charge level) is receiving an adequate level of charge is to use mains power. Three hours should be adequate. It may need a force reboot afterwards to make it realise it's charged now and is allowed to wake up. A faulty cell is always a possibility, but it's always likelier that something is simply failing in the charging process, so it'll help if that can be ruled out (or in!).
Sorry I couldn't be of more use. Maybe try getting a refund and looking into the other handheld synths? I'm sure they're are some.

I just got mine yesterday - Sept 13th. I made sure it got a full charge overnight and verified basic operation. I tried to connect and talk to it using the IOS App first, but it said I needed to update the firmaware. I plugged it into my Mac Mini and downloaded the desktop App and tried to initiate a firmware update. That turned was when locked up. Now I can not power it off or get any response out of it. Green light on 8 and blue light on 1.


So I guess it must be stuck in DFU mode, but none of the recommended procedures are able to unstick it. I need a true hard reset. Hard to believe that this device was designed without the usual pinhole reset button.

My Orba was unresponsive - power on did nothing.

I tried to download the firmware but it keeps failing. NO RESPONSE FROM SUPPORT! NONE!

Very disheartening. Anybody got anyway to actually contact support? Verbal? Chat? Email?

i have solve my problem and i would like to tell you how i make it. use another laptop. Trust me, it helps.

Hey all, at this time the only way to update your firmware is through a wired connection to a computer. We've seen some Orba users use a friend's laptop to update their firmware if they don't have a computer handy. We totally understand this isn't ideal and will let you know if this process changes. Please drop us a line in our support portal if we can help you with anything else.

After long waiting for my ORBA worked fine for a few minutes until I put it away, no time to play further. Today I opened the pouch that it came with and it was completely dead, no charging either.

Any ideas besides going after warranty?

I managed to get mine working: at first it was working normally, it wouldn’t however connect with the Windows app (Windows 10). I noticed however, that it did appear as a MIDI controller and a speaker in the Device manager. I charged the Orba fully and then it somehow did show up in the app, all of a sudden. I proceeded to update the firmware and, of course, bricked the thing in the process. But I noticed that the firmware update process got interrupted all the time by the goddamn Windows UAC pop-ups. So I ran the app as administrator and then held the Orba power button and shift-clicked the update button as described in the first post. And after that everything went smoothly and my Orba can be used fully with both Windows and iOS apps. Hopefully this helps someone, too!
